Tourist spending spikes near YOG opening
By Mustafa Shafawi Posted: 19 August 2010 1238 2010 1238 hrs

More than $8.3 million was spent by tourists to singapore on the 3 days leading up to YOG.

Comparatively...
$100 million was spent by tourist to singapore on the F1 week in 2009.

You go figure.

So much for putting Singapore on the world map.
Im not against such initiatives.. but i think we fell flat on our face this time around.

Motorcyclist killed in three-vehicle pileup along Bukit Timah Expressway
By Shaffiq Alkhatib Posted: 15 August 2010 1552 2010 1552 hrs CNA

This may sound insensitive but why am i not surprise?

Just the other day, i saw a motorcyclist roll in front of me on SLE while i was driving at 100km/h. Its a good thing that i was about 50m behind.

Singapore laws states that the drivers would always be in the wrong in accidents involving motorcyclist and pedestrians. Its a matter of time before i get a on board videocam to safeguard my interest.

SMRT to add over 300 more train trips for YOG opening, closing ceremonies
Posted: 12 August 2010 1315 2010 1315 hrs - CNA

While at the coffeeshop at my voideck..i overheard an uncle who was reading the above piece of news via his macbook commenting to his friend (who incidentally was on a ipad!)

"If they can do it for YOG, why cant they do it everyday during peak hours??"

Ok, we are all into remix and the new songs. Kit chan and JJ are like the hottest properties with National Day and YOG around the corner..

But long before they were famous... i was singing to the following 2 dozen years ago..

Singapore National - Five Stars Arising lyrics

There's a new moon arising, out of the stormy sea
Youthful and bright and bearing hope, and tranquil as can be
Reach out for the moon above, savour freedom, truth and love
There's a new moon arising, out of the stormy sea

There are five stars arising, out of the stormy sea
Each is a lamp to guide our way; a lamp for all to see
Reach out for the stars above, savour freedom, truth and love
There are five stars arising, out of the stormy sea

There's a new flag arising, out of the stormy sea
Crimson as the blood of all mankind, yet white and pure and free
Reach out for the flag above, savour freedom, truth and love
There's a new flag arising, happy and proud are we
