If there were 3 lanes to a road.
1 lane is now marked for a Bus lane.

How many lanes would there be left for the remaining traffic?

If the traffic builds up, what would you do to ease the traffic on that stretch of road?

Everything can be solved by ERP.

Only at a Chinese Wedding Dinner

1) you can wake up at the proposed dinner start time (i.e 1930hrs)
2) start looking for something to wear.
3) drive to dinner
4) find a parking lot in crowded Marina Square
5) get lost navigating the confusing Marina Square Shaopping Centre

and still make it to dinner just before the bride and groom make their grand entrance into the ballroom.

Either that...or my red vios is a very fast car.

Im inspired...to run.

Just like how 6 years ago, when i first saw some 'silly black runner' stroll into padang and won himself USD 20000.

Yes...silly. Because running wasnt such a big thing back then. I was subsequently questioned on my sanity when i told people im joining those silly black runners to run the marathon.

This morning, i was again at padang to watch some lots of ladies run. I just happened to be there so might as well catch them in action.

It was the Great Eastern 10K run.

Photobucket

I think she was here for the attention. She got mine... =)

Photobucket

The winner... after just 34 mins. Hahah... in my prime, i used to be able to run 10K in about 48mins...
She would have caught her breath, drank 2L of 100 plus, collected her medal and retire to her hotel room by the time i came back from my run.

On a side note, i didnt have my zoom with me. so wasnt able to catch any runner's vivid expression.

Photobucket

Yes, no runner. But i caught him waiting for his mum. Hahah...

Im inspired to run. Maybe next year... when i can spare time.

RECAP POST NO. 256.

Post no. 256
Dear all..

Im ready for year 2008!

In the financial world, as each year unfolds, a particular theme would emerge as the 'tagline' for the economy front.

In 2004/5, it was the jobless recovery.
In 2006, it was the high fuel prices.
In 2007, it the housing loan woes.

What would it be in 2008?

On the political front,

In 2003/4/5, it was the WAR against Terror.
In 2006, it was the stabilisation of Iraq after sporadic fighting erupts all over ground Zero. In fact, there were also the HAMAS conflicts.
In 2007, it was a combination of everything with no clear direction. Either that or just everyone is sick of the old story over and over again.

In Singapore, We have to grapple with issues like

2004, Save the Tsunami victims..
2005, NKF Saga.
2006, Youth Challenge Saga.
2007, Ren Ci Hospital Saga, increasing inflation..

As we move forward into the new year, I hope 2008 will be filled with lots of turmoils and upheaval... yes, you heard me right. Not in the disasters sense but in the 'lots of changes' sense.

Hold on to your seats.... this is going to be one hell of a year. =) Dont say i never warn you.

Regards

Fast forward...
Oct 2008.

Market Turmoil!

Photobucket

STI at 1600!!!

Dont ignore the signs. Its a prelude of things to come. =)

On the bright side...
There is a silver lining to this. Was talking to this very rich friend of mine yesterday... lets call him DRACO to protect his real identity.

We have hatched a plan to buy some private property when the property market really turns sour.
Being the very wise me.. I was immediately able to have this vision of cheap private homes (thanks to individuals who over stretched themselves in good times)...
In fact, i see that happening in about 3 years. All was rosey and i was getting carried away imagining how much money i would make once i sell off this private property until he casually asked..

"So how much money do you have...."

Another old song..
Im having alittle trouble keeping up with times.

"Soak Up The Sun" - SHERYL CROW

My friend the communist
Holds meetings in his RV
I can't afford his gas
So I'm stuck here watching TV
I don't have digital
I don't have diddly squat
It's not having what you want
It's wanting what you've got

[CHORUS:]
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Gonna tell everyone
To lighten up (I'm gonna tell 'em that)
I've got no one to blame
For every time I feel lame
I'm looking up o I'm gonna soak up the sun
I'm gonna soak up the sun
I've got a crummy job
It don't pay near enough
To buy the things it takes
To win me some of your love
Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
Maybe i am crazy too

[CHORUS]

I'm gonna soak up the sun
While it's still free
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Before it goes out on me
Don't have no master suite
I'm still the king of me
You have a fancy ride, but baby
I'm the one who has the key
Every time I turn around
I'm looking up, you're looking down
Maybe something's wrong with you
That makes you act the way you do
Maybe I am crazy too

[CHORUS]

I'm gonna soak up the sun
Got my 45 on
So I can rock on.

Im going to throw my resignation letter later and go somewhere to suntan next week.

"Oil prices surge on growing signs of OPEC output cut
Posted: 21 October 2008 0443 hrs - CNA
.
.
Iran's ambassador to the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries on Monday floated the idea that the cartel may agree to cut oil production in stages at the meeting, the official IRNA news agency reported.
.
.
A cut in production by one million barrels per day is not enough to re-establish equilibrium on the market," Libyan Oil Minister Shukri Ghanem told AFP.
.
.
Our position for the past 10-plus years has been that we have to manage oil production," Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez told AFP.
.
.
OPEC, led by the world's biggest oil exporter Saudi Arabia, has not officially indicated whether production levels would be altered at the meeting in the Austrian capital but its current chief Chakib Khelil said over the weekend that the cartel should order a "substantial" cut. "
.
.
"I think it is kind of funny that OPEC wants to defend the 70 to 80 dollar a barrel range because when the price first hit these levels they said the price was too high" and blamed "evil speculators" for driving up prices, said Phil Flynn at Alaron Trading.

Now the cartel is addicted to these prices that they said made no sense and now are desperately trying to defend them," Flynn said."

When you hold 40% of the world oil production.. its easy to say what you want and get away with it.

The world is filled with greedy people.

Post no. 487

Just the other day, a friend and i were having this discussion on money.
Lets name him Porket to protect his real identity.

Porket : Oei, i need money desperately. How much would you lend me?
Me : Seriously?
Porket : Yesyes.. how much? How much?
Me : How much do you need?
Porket : 24K.
Me : OMFG. Thats like 12 D300! and i'll most prob get a discount from uncle if i buy that many D300. Serious huh?
Porket : No...i just wanna see how much a friend you are.
Me : =(

I actually went home and thought carefully about this.. and came up with the following.

Friendship is not gauge by money.
As cliche as it sounds and short of trying to find excuses not to help a friend.. I firmly believe that its not the money.

Firstly, im not sure how Porket got into such a debt. If it was betting related. I'll most prob be sending him to hell by lending him more money. This would also make me a lousy friend.

But if it was becoz of some dire situation...i.e his (frictional) younger sister has cancer and in need of treatment.. i'll definitely go out to help him. No question asked...maybe except why he need such a large sum of money in the first place..
like the other time how a certain individual (lets name him Rats to protect his identity) abscond with 2.5K of my money after promising to returning it to me before he left the country

Soo which brings me to the other qns..

Friends.
Different people have different yardstick to measure friendship. The one thing that most of us get carried away is that we expect too much from friends. We constantly judge the actions of our friends (i.e How much money would you lend me in my time of need.)

But we dont need such situations to ascertain how true a friend is.

For me,
a friend can share with you his roast pork during lunch..when you have to contemplate with lousy overcooked lunches.
thats enough for me... =)

Have you shared your roast pork with me recently?

Regards
Friend.

If melamine is found in so many food products, has it ever occur to anyone that it is a by-product of some plant, machine or processes?

My govt has moved to assure us that given the nominal amount of melamine found in food products here is safe and unless a large amount of is consumed for a long period of time, there is absolutely no chance of us getting into any health trouble.

Im sure that my govt is not lying to me or my fellow citizens as such, im not very sure why people are so bothered with melamine tainted food products anymore.

13th Month bonus is in danger of falling off the agenda altogether and everyone is ready for some rough time.
Electric tariffs is increasing by 20%... and transport cost going up..

I am also not immune to the macro economic outlook.
As such....i will hereby adopt desperate measures.

I will not be buying a new TV for my room and would only be buying investing in the Nikon 17-55 f2.8 lens only which would cost a significant percentage of my pay .

I do not discount further belt tightening measures.

This is very exciting. I just hope i dont fall asleep during the talk.

I spent the last 30 mins catching up on news that i should be reading about 5 days back.
And i came across this...

Photobucket

Despite my govt's guidance is for its citizen to use Parks as often as possible, it is now leveraging a charge for people who drives to these Park.
Im sure alot of people are up in arms over this as this run contrary to my govt's guidance and alot of uncles in the kopitiam below my block wonders why cant they just impose charges (via ERP sensors, incidentally another fav of my govt) for cars that abuse the free parking (i.e Charges applies from the 2nd/3rd hour onwards)....

BUT being the very wise and noble ME, i was immediately able to identify the intentions behind this soon to be applied charges!

- WHY WOULD YOU WANNA START EXERCISING ONLY WHEN YOU REACH THE PARK WHEN YOU CAN WORK UP A SWEAT WHILE GETTING THERE?!?!?

I wish i had the guts to tell these myopic uncles off... but im so sure i'll be wasting my time.. If everyone was so smart and wise.. there will be no foolish people in my country liao.

If Dow doesnt hold at 9998 and STI dont hold at 1998, then 7000 and 1200 is the next support level.

To be frank... that would be really disastrous.
WHY?
Because i wont have bonus to buy my D300 / D700. =(

On the bright side, Crude Oil prices is below $90. On track for the $70 mark. BUT...if the equities market is anything to go by... the days of $30 may be here soon.

I once told a friend over steamboat that the equities market is ahead of the general world economy climate by about 6 months...

"GOODBYE GRABOVAC - TNP 05 Oct 2008
By Ernest Luis

Later this morning, Grabovac, 37 - voted the S-League's Player of the Decade three years ago since the league's inception in 1996 - returns to his birthplace Croatia, as a Croatian citizen once again.
.
.
.
In 2002, The New Paper asked then-FAS chief operating officer John Koh in a report, if Goncalves and Grabovac would give up their Singapore citizenships after their playing days are over, since they were already at the age of 31 by the time they received their red passports.

Koh told The New Paper then in 2002: 'No, they are not here just to play for Singapore and then pack up when it's all over.

'We have a scheme to help them in their career choices when their playing days are over. It will depend on their choices and aptitude.'
He added they could become administrative officials, but that could mean missing out on what they can really offer.

When i was younger, this song was all the rage. Im not getting any younger.

Gimme Gimme Gimme.. - ABBA

Half past twelve
And I'm watching the late show in my flat all alone
How I hate to spend the evening on my own
Autumn winds
Blowing outside my window as I look around the room
And it makes me so depressed to see the gloom
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

Movie stars
Find the end of the rainbow, with a fortune to win
It's so different from the world I'm living in
Tired of T.V.
I open the window and I gaze into the night
But there's nothing there to see, no one in sight
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight...
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight...

There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
